Don't display anything for people to reward you for it.
If you have to prove yourself to anyone, do it to Allah. For He is well aware of your internal and external state. You may have people praise you for how you present yourself. A question to ask oneself - Will you be worthy of that praise for your approaches on the day of judgement too? Do whatever you wish to do, to achieve all that you desire without slandering or manipulating or disrespecting others.
As much as I have learnt, everything starts at home. A person with a bad attitude at home yet praised by the society isn't a person of value and good character. Be good to your mother, be good to your mother, be good to your mother - was advised by the Best of Mankind ﷺ. Yet people put their mothers on the line to test her limits of tolerance or try to put her up for sale by trying to bribe people into taking her responsibility or the old age home. Allah is Al Adl, we will receive the share for our deeds and our intentions on the Day of Judgement.
